RE: SELF-CONVICTION
what is the difference between those who find success in something they do vs. those who don't?
NOTE: This is a repost from a prior email newsletter where I share more updates on offerings and BTS going on inside the hive. I’ll be transitioning some of those emails here!
I had asked myself an important question at the start of last month while my self-confidence in the path I'm creating for myself had been wavering (note to self: limit what you're intaking from the world around you! and protect your mind and your internal world from things that don't serve the mindset you're trying to cultivate).
“What is the difference between those who succeed in something and those who don't"?
Now, I'm hesitant to say “don't” without the suggestion quotes because I don't truly believe in the concept of failure, nor do I particularly like the language of succeeding vs. not succeeding.
But in this context I mean, those who have a dream, idea or vision and successfully actualize it into matter.
In asking this question, I received a revelatory answer (it may not be revelatory in general, but revelatory to me) that has since completely re-oriented something internal within me and the way I'm starting to move day-to-day.
I thought back to some of the incredible people throughout history who we learn or know about who have accomplished incredible feats of courage. I think about Harriet Tubman, Abraham Lincoln, Malala Yousafzai, Rosa Parks, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr. and all of the incredible Olympic athletes who splashed our screens this summer who proudly represented their countries and showcased the years of immense dedication and physical labor they've put into their craft.
And I think of the innovators, those ahead of their time and willing to go in the direction of a vision that people might have called crazy or impossible : Nikola Tesla, Albert Einstein, Steve Jobs, Leonardo Da Vinci, and so many others who have left their mark on this Earth through their pioneering spirit.
What I realized when observing all of these incredible humans, and the many other people I come across day-to-day who are creating and building something in this world (which, really, is all of us), is that the difference between those who make their dreams a reality and those who do not is belief. It's an internal reshaping of the fundamental concept you have about yourself and your capability. It's a reorientation of the way you speak to yourself, the way you carry yourself, and the place from which you act from. Success isn't a strategy, more than it is an unshakeable conviction.
The bridge between a dream and reality is the committed acts of courage you take every day in the direction of your vision.
So this week, and beyond – have the courage to be convicted of your own success and the actualization of your dreams. Give yourself no other option. Your vision is inevitable. Resource yourself from your internal well of your knowing. Act as if. Keep moving forward.

🧠 Self-Inquiry Exercises:
What is my relationship to belief and faith?
Do I bet on myself? Do I believe in myself?
How would I move and act if I was fully convinced that my success was inevitable and not just a hope?
What does it feel like in my body when I believe in myself? What can I implement to cultivate that feeling daily and call on it when my belief starts to waver?
Do I take actions that align to my greater vision and cut out the rest?
✨ Action:
Remove any messaging you're intaking from the external world for a period of time while you connect to this internal belief within you and rebuild your relationship to self-conviction. Intake only the things that empower your self-belief. Try to limit interaction with the people around you who always try to find reasons why they can't vs. reasons why they can. Clean up your social feed, purge the negative self-talk. Find your resources that will sustain you even as you may waver.
